It should not be undisclosed that this romantically located pond at the northern foot of Katrin can also be reached by car. However, the approaches to it are far more rewarding, among which the round described here is part of the mandatory program for visitors of Ischl and can also be walked almost all year round in any weather.
From the station in Bad Ischl through Bahnhofstraße, past the Eurothermen Resort, post office building, drinking hall and parish church, then through Pfarrgasse to Friedrich-Schröpfer-Platz. Along the Sophien-Esplanade, Hasner Allee and Franz-Carl-Promenade by the Traun to the junction at a playground. Left on paths no. 9, 10 and 11 ("Sarajevo-Allee") next to the harness racing track, crossing a road, to the bark chapel (biotope Kaltenbachteich). On the footpath right through meadows and swampy land to the buildings of the Bad Ischl tourism schools with a fork. Right on footpath no. 11 past the houses to the car park at the Katrin cable car valley station at the Rudolfsbrunnen guesthouse in the Kaltenbach district. Left past the valley station building over the run-off road in several hairpin bends uphill, above the climbing hall turning right up to the junction. Keeping left along the route southwards and then left to the saddle (signs, bench, transformer) between the Katrin massif
