A walking tour to discover Nizza Monferrato and the memory poles that tell some episodes that led it to become one of the most important towns in the area.
The route starts from the Nizza Monferrato station, where as soon as you exit you immediately find yourself in front of Bersano wines; the wine shop and museum immediately tell one of the most important activities of the area. After a visit (of course optional), and a few hundred meters, we meet the first memory pole entitled "The mother house of the daughters of Mary Help of Christians." You can then scan the QR code placed on the pole, read its history and watch the dedicated video.
We then resume our walk through Nizza, reaching the second memory pole dedicated to Francesco Cirio, an Italian entrepreneur, founder of the Cirio canned food company, born right in this town.
Here we are walking through the real historic center of Nizza, along via Carlo Alberto, reaching the town hall square; we are in front of the third memory pole, named "The story and the Campanon"; a few meters from here we also find the tourist information office, which can help us on our route or during our stay in the area.
From here, leaving the town of Nizza Monferrato, we start a small climb that, through the vineyards, leads us to the Chapel of the Madonna della Neve del Bricco. Besides enjoying a beautiful view, you can read some words taken from Umberto Eco's novel Foucault's Pendulum and discover the dedicated memory pole.
Our walk brings us back down the hill, passing through a beautiful dirt road immersed in the vineyards; depending on the season, you can enjoy different smells, colors and sensations that bring us back to the vine-growing farming life, typical of the place.
Yes, thus arriving at one of the most important squares of Nizza, at the memory pole of the Foro Boario and Pio Corsi; we are in front of the social theater and we are in one of the most characteristic places. Continuing along the town streets, after a few hundred meters, we reach Palazzo Crova, an example of an 18th-century noble city residence. Inside, in the courtyard, we find the memory pole dedicated to the typical local wine, the Nizza. The palace hosts in its basement a great restaurant, with typical dishes and local wines.
The last part of our excursion takes us to walk through some historic streets, crossing the small square in front of the church of San Giovanni to return once again to the starting point.
