Neustadt in Holstein, a small, old harbor town on the Lübeck Bay, is the starting point of this beautiful route. It leads through the hilly young moraine landscape formed by the Weichsel ice age around 20,000 years ago to Eutin in Holstein Switzerland. After leaving the nature reserve Neustädter Binnenwasser (a brackish lake with adjacent salt meadows), the constant slight ups and downs of the moraine hills begin quickly before reaching the lake district of Holstein Switzerland on the eastern shore of the Great Eutin Lake. Tip: In summer, the hike can be combined here with a boat trip to Eutin. Fittingly, the town is welcomed by the majestically towering castle over the lake. Until the beginning of the 19th century, prince-bishops resided here, followed by the princes of Lübeck. From 1776 to 1829, there was a remarkable cultural flowering. Poets, writers, and painters worked in C. M. von Weber’s birthplace. Claudius, Kloppstock, and Wilhelm von Humboldt also stayed here and contributed
