"High up on Buchberg, the view is beautiful. All around you can see the beloved homeland." This is how Maria Waldherr sings the destination of this simple but very rewarding hiking tour. Besides the Buchberg lookout tower, which offers views from Ötscher to the Waldviertel, the Romanesque Laurenzi Church - the oldest building in Neulengbach - is the highlight of this hike.

The tour starts at the Neulengbach Stadt station. From there, simply follow the yellow markings. Walk to the left on Bahnstraße and then turn into Ulmenhofstraße. Pass the Jewish cemetery and arrive in the Almersberg district. In the center of the town, turn left, always following the yellow markings, up a service road. At the next intersection, follow the blue marking for a short distance, which leads via a forest path to the St. Laurenzi chapel. From there, continue following the markings. Here you must again follow the yellow markings through the beech forest that gives the mountain its name. When you come out of the forest onto a paved service road, go left, uphill. Now it is only a short distance to the summit. At the last intersection, you can already see the Buchberg lookout tower and turn left. From the tower, on clear days, you have a fabulous view from Ötscher to the Weinviertel, and from the Wachau to the Schneeberg. Right next to it is the Schutzhaus on Buchberg, inviting you to snack and rest. After a long rest, go back about 400m and reach the circular hiking path (blue markings). Follow the path, arrive at Burgstall to a red marking. This leads to Au am Anzenbach and over Großweinberg to Neulengbach Stadt station.
