The Neue Regensburger Hut has a wonderful location on the steep step of the Falbesoner high valley. In the panorama, the Habicht stands out especially as a focal point, while the Hohe Moos stretches out at the back, an enchanting wetland framed by majestic mountains with rare flora. Like all other alpine club huts around the Stubai Valley, the Neue Regensburger is also integrated into the large, one-week Stubai high route (detailed information can be found in the eponymous Rother Guide). Here we get to know the hut built in 1930/31 and recently extended in an avant-garde style via its normal valley access – a route whose impressions gradually increase.
Right at the forest café we take trail no. 133 and ascend countless switchbacks on the steep forest slope. Occasionally, one crosses the forest road coming from Volderau, which is eventually joined and shortly afterwards the Falbesoner Ochsenalm, 1822 m, is reached. Here, alpine products can be sampled in summer. Now further into the incised high valley – it rather feels like a basin, on whose threshold the hut silhouette is already visible high up. We orient ourselves through a small larch patch to the right side, where an extensive zigzag course starts again in the background. The path is therefore never particularly steep but relatively bumpy due to the stony ground, requiring some concentration. Upon reaching the terrain threshold, we stand in front of the Neue Regensburger Hut, 2286 m, and can optionally still explore the Hohe Moos a little. The descent follows the same route.

Mark Zahel
