There is nothing in the Blockheidepark that cannot also be found elsewhere in the Waldviertel! Colorful heather, bizarrely shaped rock formations, fish ponds, and picturesque birch groves: these are characteristics of this Nordic-appearing plateau and granite landscape in northern Lower Austria. But rarely is all of this found in one place, so concentrated and united in such a small area as in this nature park near Gmünd and Eibenstein. Of course, a tribute to this probably most popular Waldviertel hike must not be missing here, as it effortlessly and like in fast motion presents one of the most beautiful landscapes in Europe.
From the parking lot in Großeibenstein, follow Großeibensteiner Straße southeast through the village, then turn left onto Blockheidestraße after 100 m to entrance 2 of the Blockheidepark. Continue level and uphill on the designated road (on the right Wackelstein and Koboldsteine) to Gmündner Höhe, 519 m, with snack station, playground, and observation tower. Then descend beyond to the Blockheideteich with the Hubertus Chapel and along the right bank to a fork. Turn left along the southern shore of the pond eastwards to another fork and then right to the Geological Open-Air Museum – outcrops of the most important Waldviertel rock types –, then left on the roadway to the fork by the Schwedenkreuz. Now right to the Devil's Stones (Devil's Bed, Devil's Loaf of Bread, Schullerstein) exactly on the 15 degrees east longitude meridian. Continue on the designated footpath southwards over meadows to a road and follow this left, northeastwards, to the mighty Christophstein at the forest edge. At
