The unique landscape offers the attentive hiker varied nature experiences on the route from Radolfzell at Zeller See via Mindelsee to Allensbach and the Gnadensee.
The spa town Radolfzell lies on the Untersee part of Lake Constance. Since 1900, there have been tourist facilities and spa establishments here. The well-known "Mettnau Cure" beyond Radolfzell treats primarily cardiovascular diseases and movement disorders as naturally as possible under the motto "healing through movement."
On “his” Mettnau peninsula, the poet Victor von Scheffel lived in the Scheffelschlösschen until 1886. He gained fame in particular through "The Bugler of Säckingen" and "Ekkehard."
The Untersee, as the western part of Lake Constance, has largely retained its natural character through the early designation of large protected areas. The Mettnau peninsula is one of the “Natura 2000” protected areas. The “Life-Pfad Untersee” explains the natural treasures of the Untersee at 19 stations and three observation platforms.
The Mindelsee is a relic of the last ice age about 15,000 years ago and an important bird protection area today.
The municipality of Allensbach is known throughout Germany, especially through the “Institute for Demoscopy Allensbach.”

Schwarzwaldverein e.V.
Roadbook
We begin the hike on the lake side of Radolfzell station at Zeller See. Along the harbor mole, the yellow diamond of the Schwarzwaldverein leads east to the Mettnaubrücke, where the path turns off to the Mettnau peninsula. We follow the lakeside path from the lake bath to the beach bath. The Scheffelschlösschen is located in the immediate vicinity. From the beach bath, a detour to the Mettnauturm is worthwhile. Through floodplain forest, we reach the lookout tower, which offers a good overview of the entire peninsula and the Markelfinger Winkel. Back to the parking lot, we follow the “Life-Pfad Untersee”. Especially during the mating season in May, water birds in the “duck pond” can be observed undisturbed. The nature trail leads us to another viewpoint on the eastern shore of the peninsula before we meet the beach bath road again. We leave this at the sports field to the right and reach the Markelfinger Winkel. Here we meet the yellow diamond again. Along the railway line and the lakeshore, we walk to the campsite at Markelfingen. After passing the railway crossing, we go through the Radolfzell district in the direction of Mindelsee, pass under the B33 and reach the internationally important bird protection area after 2 km. Along its southern shore, we walk to the location “Mooshalde”. In southern direction, we cross the district road, which leads left to the Wild- und Freizeitpark Allensbach, and reach a small lake in the protected Bündlirsied. Shortly thereafter, we meet the Bodenseerundweg (marked blue dot with surrounding black arrow), which enters from the west. We follow it, past Rossberg, towards Allensbach. Along the way, we enjoy the wonderful view from Walzenberg over Gnadensee towards the island of Reichenau. Behind the Mettnau peninsula, the cones of the Hegauberge dominate the panorama. The Kaltbrunner Str. finally leads us down to the lake to dining options and the station.
