Ça Valais la rando
"Go where the wind takes you" said the song. Life is fleeting, the dragonflies and damselflies will tell you the same...

For this hike starting from Thyon 2000, we will first follow the Thyon Ridges with a breathtaking view of the Valais Alps, to discover the Essertze Ponds, a string of small alpine lakes located at 2,300 m altitude offering an amazing view of the valley, the Dent Blanche and the Grande Dixence Dam.
In this wetland biotope area, made up of small lakes and peat bogs more than 13,000 years old, we will try to observe the birth of dragonflies (emergence)…
Did you know that the first dragonflies appeared on earth about 300 million years ago? They were then the size of a mallard! Fortunately, they evolved and every year, when the weather is fine and the temperatures mild, dozens of them emerge and transform into a fascinating insect, extremely agile, offering us elegant and graceful aerial dances.
These odonates, relatives of the damselflies that we may also have the chance to observe, are exceptional predators. Their ephemeral life perfectly illustrates the fragility and beauty of wildlife and reminds us that every moment deserves to be savored!
In Asian countries, and especially in Japan, this water creature represents the subconscious, dreams, thoughts and is a symbol of prosperity and luck… So seize yours and come discover, with family or friends, the incredible life of dragonflies!
This hike can also be organized on request, for a minimum of 4 people.
