The actually insignificant summit Muttner Höhi impresses with its splendid panoramic view: of the well-shaped Muttner Horn nearby, of the mountain ranges on both sides of the Lenzerheide, of the Piz Beverin and of course of the magnificent »Bergüner Stöcke« with Piz Ela, Tinzenhorn and Piz Mitgel. Strangely fascinating is the deep view into the Rhine Valley between Thusis and Reichenau. The striking straight ”line” is not the highway, as initially suspected, but the straightened Rhine. Of course, most villages on both sides of the valley – Heinzenberg and Domleschg – can also be clearly seen.
From the Post stop in Obermutten, you hike, possibly after a visit to the peculiar wooden church, on an easy path over alpine meadows to Muttner Höhi, 2000 m, where a magnificent view awaits us. Short descent to the beginning of a long traverse to the edge of the forest. Sharp right and through the extremely steep mountain forest to a clearing on a prominent rock – Crocs. Further steep down to the beginning of a wide alpine trail that leads us to Carschenna. Here, about 200 rock carvings from various epochs (from 1500 BC) were discovered in 1965. After visiting, down to Veia Traversina over the steep cliffs to the Rhine. Shortly to the right and further, finally on a spur path, to Hohen Rätien castle on a rock spur above Thusis. It dates from the 12th/13th century, admission fee applies, next to it the church of St. Johann (15th century). Now steeply down to Thusis and through the town to the station.
