The Murnauer Moos is the largest alpine moor in Central Europe. 23 km² have been designated a nature reserve. Numerous rare plants can be found there, such as the Siberian iris, the Carlsbad orchid and various orchid species. The moor is home to more than 1800 animal species - many bird species and insects, but also reptiles, snails and mussels. After the Ice Age, the many kilometers wide basin was filled by a huge lake, which gradually silted up and has now completely disappeared. The ever-present backdrop is the large mountain backdrop with the Hohe Kiste, 1922 m, as an eye-catcher.
From the hiking parking lot in Ramsach next to the Ramsach, we walk across the wide, open moorland (low moor) with its rich floral decorations far to the south; here the Murnauer Moos is absolutely flat and offers an unobstructed view of the great mountains. We come to a junction and keep right over a bridge into the "Lange Filze" with its boardwalk, a raised bog with a distinctly different character. Approximately in the middle we come to an open shelter. At Westried we reach the "Ufer" and walk through Moosrain, always on the heights slightly above the moorland - particularly beautiful views - back to Ramsach with the little church (rural paintings).
