MUNICH'S "GREEN OASIS" - BREATHE IN THE ENGLISH GARDEN
Over 10.1 kilometers, stage 8 takes you through the English Garden from Schwabing to Oberföhring (Bogenhausen).
The stage starts in Altschwabing, where you can still experience the authentic Schwabing with its iconic pubs and cafés. From the bustle of Schwabing and the well-known part of the English Garden, with beer gardens and the Kleinhesseloher Lake, this relaxing stage leads across the English Garden and shows it from another side – natural, little visited, quiet, with meadows, forest areas, and streams. A green oasis in the middle of the city. The English Garden is one of the largest urban parks worldwide and a popular meeting place for Munich locals and visitors.
The stage begins in the university district. From the university buildings at Siegestor, you walk through part of Altschwabing into the lively section of the English Garden. Passing the Monopteros and Chinese Tower up to the Kleinhesseloher Lake, you cross the Isarring into the natural and quiet part of the English Garden. Here you walk along various streams, with a detour to the student housing area and past wide meadows and dense forests to the wooden Saint Emmeran's Bridge and into the rural Oberföhring, where you visit St. Lorenz Church, an old brickworks, and the Bürgerpark.

From Professor-Huber-Platz at the university, walk to Siegestor and leave Ludwigstraße at Schackstraße. You get a brief impression of quiet Altschwabing along Kaulbachstraße, where you turn left. Then the stage turns right into Ohmstraße with Art Nouveau buildings, at the end of which a path leads into the English Garden. You cross the small Schwabinger Bach and keep slightly right. The path passes the hill with the Monopteros, which promises a magnificent view over the park and the towers of the old town, then turns left to the Chinese Tower with its beer garden. Shortly after, you pass Rumfordschlöss’l, a former officers’ casino, and follow footpaths along the left edge of the park and the Schwabinger Bach. Soon you reach the Kleinhesseloher Lake, whose shore you follow. A bridge crosses the Middle Ring and leads into the natural, quiet part of the English Garden. You keep right at first, cross the Oberstjägermeisterbach, and pass cosy allotment gardens. Then a path crosses the stream again and follows it for a while. At the amphitheater, the route veers slightly left and follows the signposts towards the "Alte Heide" subway station. After crossing the Schwabinger Bach, turn right and come across the O2 tiny houses at the edge of the English Garden in the student housing area.
All living areas are contained in these innovative 7-square-meter houses. To the right, it leads back into the English Garden and along the Schwabinger Bach to a bridge that would lead to an inn. This is the northernmost point of the trail. You stay on the gravel path, which soon passes a large meadow on the south side and finally through a dense forest, passing idyllic ponds formed by the Oberstjägermeisterbach. Then follow the signs towards the wooden footbridge. Crossing the Isar on the wooden bridge and then another bridge over the canal, you reach the St. Emmeramsmühle inn. Here a road leads through the rural-looking valley, then the Rochus-Dedler-Weg climbs to St. Lorenz Church in Oberföhring. At the church, turn right onto Muspilistraße. This crosses Oberföhringer Straße and leads to "Zur alten Ziegelei". A path circles the buildings and runs along the right edge of a field until you turn right at its end. Shortly after, you go through a narrow passage into the Oberföhring Bürgerpark with barrack-like buildings of the former hospital. The route ends at the small theater in the gatehouse and at the opposite Götz Collection on Oberföhringer Straße.
