Monte Totoga loop

Monte Totoga stands isolated and centrally located between the Primiero and Vanoi valleys. During the Great War, it was an important artillery stronghold for the Italian army, which built extensive defense and service structures called stòli. We start from Passo della Gobbera (985 m) along a comfortable forest road that goes up and down, first to Calchèra di Gobbera (1,000 m), then to Col della Cross (1,708 m), from where there is a wide view over the Vanoi. The route continues on a forest road to Vascoraia (1,080 m), where it narrows to a trail that, after a rocky hollow stretch, becomes steeper up to the meadows of Totoga (1,370 m). The route then continues left on the old military road that climbs the mountain from Val Cortella. We reach the San Giovanni Guadalberto hut (1,570 m) and the entrance to the stòli that we will visit. Turning right, we steeply reach the summit of Totoga (1,705 m). The return is via the locality Le Monde (1,480 m) just after hairpin 47, where we continue left and quickly reach a junction from which we head to the San Silvestro chapel (13th century) where we admire the view over the Primiero valley. We then take trail no. 346 back to the starting point.
