Consorzio Alta Valle del Potenza e Scarzito
The highest peak of the Consortium for a magnificent view over an immense territory.
Monte Pennino, at 1572 m.a.s.l., is the highest peak of the Consortium. It offers a magnificent view over an immense territory. Besides the entire Consortium, from its panoramic summit you can see the valleys of Esino and Chienti, the Gola della Rossa, the medieval village of Castel Santa Maria (which seems to come out of an old lithograph), up to the Sibillini Mountains and the Laga Mountains, and in the best conditions, the view reaches on one side to Gran Sasso and on the other to the Adriatic Sea.

Safety information
Pay particular attention to the sections of the path that are not very visible after Forca di Bara, in the forest section that climbs towards the summit of Monte Pennino, especially along the north ridge in winter, and when descending, if you want to leave the itinerary, on the section leading towards Colle Grugnoleta.
Tips and suggestions
We recommend respecting nature: do not pick flowers, do not damage plants, and do not litter. We ask for your cooperation also for those less attentive to ecological issues.
Roadbook
ACCESS:
From Fiuminata take the road to Passo Cornello. Upon reaching the hamlet of Poggio Sorifa, turn left towards Laverino and, shortly after, arrive at the small hamlet of Laverinello (altitude 670 m.a.s.l.) where you leave the car.
DESCRIPTION:
From Laverinello, after crossing a small bridge on the right, take path no. 213 which indicates the locality Forca di Bara. Follow the dirt road towards the splendid Macchia di Lori, a rich and evocative beech forest. After a few km, you reach Forca di Bara, at an altitude of 1149 m.a.s.l., which marks an important connection point with the Valle Scurosa of the Municipality of Sefro. From the pass, ascend continuing right inside the forest on a flat trail. Slightly above, not clearly visible from the pass, another faint trail unfolds which then, slightly more marked, proceeds uphill. Follow it until exiting the beech forest and, upon reaching the meadows, proceed, without a marked path, towards the north ridge of Monte Pennino. Once on the ridge, follow it faithfully to the summit at an altitude of 1572 m.a.s.l. On the top of Monte Pennino there is a trig point and a small concrete pillar. Descend southwest for about one hundred meters of altitude difference until intersecting the dirt road which should be followed right. After the fifth hairpin bend, the path leads, along a long route, into the Macchia di Lori, but if you want to leave the itinerary, it is possible to follow a short, unmarked but evident path descending towards Colle Grugnoleta. Then the evident rocky notch leads to the meadows below and to a dirt road (path no. 280b). Follow it downhill to the right for some hairpin bends until intersecting another dirt road marked as path no. 213. Turn left until returning to the locality Laverinello.
