A varied and very beautiful route that allows you to admire Monte Pelmo, the "throne of God", from all sides: from the imposing southern walls, to the eastern side with the large basin, the main feature of this mountain, to the scree gullies of the northeast side up to the imposing and severe northwest face. The Pelmo circuit can be done starting from Passo Staulanza, saving altitude compared to other possible approaches.

    Safety information

Technically it does not include any demanding but equipped passages to reach Forcella Val d'Arcia. Always consult a local mountain guide to verify the condition of the routes.

    Tips and suggestions

Technically there are no difficult moves, they are equipped to reach Forcella Val d’Arcia. Before starting please verify the conditions of the itinerary contacting the Alpine guides of Val di Zoldo.

    Roadbook

    1. The classic route is counterclockwise: it starts by ascending the ancient Tríòl dei Cavai which allows you to exit the woods at the base of the western ridge of Pelmetto (from where a path leads to the rock with dinosaur footprints).
    2. You continue on the southern side of the mountain, reaching, below the vertical of the Fissure, the wide pasture area of Le Mandre, panoramic and very beautiful. The path crosses the area of I Lach and skirts the large southeast ridge of Pelmo at a peculiar rock formation called Dambra (sock). You reach another pasture area, the Campi di Rutorto, and continue on the eastern side up to Rifugio Venezia.
    3. From the hut, with views over Cadore and Ampezzo and the peaks of Antelao and Sorapiss, begins the hardest stretch of the route, the ascent to Forcella di Vai d'Arcia, which allows passage to the northern side. The itinerary is steep and the ascent is helped by steel cables that assist in overcoming some demanding and exposed steps at the base of the lower Torrione of Forca Rossa. This is the Flaibani path, which follows an old trail formerly used by chamois hunters.
    4. Once at the pass you look out over the northern side, then the route leaves the Flaibani path, which descends directly to Rifugio Fiume, to take an unmarked path that diagonally cuts the huge debris flow at the foot of the northern face of Pelmo, allowing you to reach Forcella Staulanza in the shortest way and concluding the route.
