Monte Massone is considered one of the most rewarding hiking destinations on Lake Maggiore due to the magnificent panorama offered from the summit.
From the Alpe Quaggione parking lot, we ascend moderately on the paved road Z02 past the modern chapel towards Monte Zuccaro. Almost at the end of the asphalt, a narrow path branches off to the right (sign "10 – M. Massone"), running around the eastern side of the mountain. A detour across the grassy slope to the summit takes at least 30 minutes. The markings (white-red or Z02) lead down on the north side of the mountain through forest and then almost flat around the next hill. At the next distinctive fork, we turn left, climb through tall grass but on clear tracks to the height of the mountain ridge and reach Monte Cerano along the ridge. The view is already rewarding here but becomes even more comprehensive at the summit cross of Poggio Croce, which we reach along the ridge after 30 min. On the steep descent to Bocchetta di Bagnone, we lose about 150 meters in elevation, then ascend again (sign "M. Massone"), mostly left of the ridge to La Bocchetta. The yellow or orange markings are
