The route develops among the dense valleys and airy ridges of the northwest area of the Consortium, until reaching the panoramic meadows characterizing the summit of Monte Gemmo (in dialect Jambo or Jemmo, possibly from ancient Umbrian iamb: “double, twin”).
The first part of the route is mainly immersed in dense woodland of hop-hornbeams, oaks, hornbeams, maples, and you will find clearings where you can admire the beauty of these small transversal green valleys, often characterized by gorges and ravines. As you approach the goal of Monte Gemmo, the route passes through an increasingly airy environment, a ride over heights that culminate in panoramic views from the summit itself, offering a wide panorama.

Tips and suggestions
We recommend respecting nature: do not pick flowers, do not damage plants, and do not leave waste. We ask for your cooperation also for those less attentive to ecological issues.
Roadbook
ACCESS:
the start is from the hamlet of Orpiano (468 m above sea level), not far from the town of Massa, reachable via the S.P. 39 Collamato.
DESCRIPTION:
the route runs alongside the old village, where you can see a small spring. On the right, follow path no. 275b until you reach a junction. Here you can choose to continue to the left, along a path that is initially quite steep, or go right for a gentler climb to Colle Arile. Both routes merge again with trail no. 246d.
You cross the Orsina Valley, climbing to an altitude of 748 m above sea level. At this point, take a small path to the right that shortly leads onto the meadows of Monte Gemmo. From here continue along a gravel road, Passo del Mularo (246d) to a fork where it is possible, temporarily leaving the itinerary's route, to take the road (no. 220) and go to the summit of Monte Gemmo (1,202 m above sea level), near the take-off area called “Tre Pizzi” (1,151 m above sea level). From the summit of Monte Gemmo, after a short stretch, take trail no. 275d which passes under the Fonte delle Trocche spring and continues to a trail junction near a water intake.
At this point, take trail no. 220 heading towards La Morca, a small path that descends beside the road, among juniper bushes and splendid fir trees. Upon reaching La Morca (724 m above sea level), take the provincial road towards Fiuminata and, after about 20 meters, turn right onto the Franciscan trail (no. 220), which leads to the hamlet of Quadreggiana. From there continue to Orpiano, passing through the locality Costa di Fiuminata, along the S.P. 29 Collamato.
