Monte Faito, Walnut Cliff, Conca Cliff and Monte Chianiello
Little Fish Trek
Cilento Mountains: Rupestrian Chapel of Santa Lucia, Rupestrian Chapel of San Mauro, Monte Faito, Walnut Cliff or Walnut Rock, Conca Cliff or Conca Rock, and Monte Chianiello.
Excursion aimed to travel most of the long ridge of Monte Chianiello touching a good part of the numerous secondary summits.
The route is almost entirely on trails or intuitive paths of various levels between easy and medium, with short off-piste sections.
It crosses and follows several trails with their own names: "Tourist Route Way of the Rupestrian Sanctuaries", "Rock Goddesses Trail", and "Cavallazzo-Vallecioffi Trail".
Following the line of this long ridge, infinite full-day excursions can be planned, and our constraints were a tourist pace forecast and using one car only to close the loop on foot on asphalt with sunset and twilight lights – and the nearly full moon of January 15, 2022 with… reserve headlamp for the very last section.
If the excursion is closed at Monteforte Cilento with two cars, the asphalt is short avoiding the just over 4 km final connection towards Magliano Vetere.

Some of the published photos are taken in vertical format due to the "narrow photographic spaces" available.
They do not display well in preview format, and it is better to view them in full screen mode to properly understand the appearance of some settings.

In the winter period, carefully evaluate the snow situation before deciding on a complete route, and be ready for possible itinerary changes to end the day.
Avoid with recent heavy rains.
Tips and suggestions
The recommended period indicated is all year round, but it is clear that – apart from winter snow considerations and the strong summer sun – it is a route fully enjoyed only with EXCELLENT visibility.

From Magliano Vetere, you easily ascend following the signs for the Rupestrian Chapel of Santa Lucia, which we found open.
A drone would be needed to have an overall view of the chapel, and to see it from the opposite side to the arrival, you must take a narrow path that passes underneath and starts a couple of hairpin turns before reaching the entrance door.
Then shortly you reach the junction with the trail descending towards the Calore Gorge and turn northwest with the Walnut Cliff clearly visible ahead.
After crossing a road, continue along the easy "Tourist Route The Way of the Rupestrian Sanctuaries" and find a short detour marked as "WALNUT CLIFF": it ends under a photogenic large wall truly shaped like a walnut shell.
Then continue until you intersect the trail climbing from Capizzo, and shortly after you arrive at the Rupestrian Chapel of San Mauro which we found closed.
From this chapel, in a few meters you ascend above the long ridge-crest and before heading toward Monte Chianiello, by turning right we headed toward Monte Faito and the Walnut Cliff.
There is no trail for this round trip: only a few, very short and discontinuous walkways, but it is all intuitive with several possible lines between the crest edge and the forested areas just below.
Returning to the ridge saddle above the Rupestrian Chapel of San Mauro, we followed more or less the CAI 410 route up to the summit of Monte Chianiello passing through the Conca Cliff and the pass at Loc. Varco.
Here arrives the trail ascending from Monteforte Cilento and there is a signpost for the Rock Goddesses Trail.
From here, continue slightly below the ridge with few markings, which become many and close together in the last part of the ascent to the summit of Monte Chianiello: we did the first part by eye and the second following the signs well.
The subsequent descent from Monte Chianiello following the CAI 410 begins inside the forest on the northeast side, but we were at times in the forest and at times on the crest to safely adapt to the snow present.
Past the snow level, we definitively returned to the ridge edge where CAI 410 reenters and we took the direction of the elevation of Monte Varco Cervone.
Here one could go beyond Monte Varco Cervone towards the clearly visible Monte Vesole and make a longer return from the north start-end of the "Cavallazzo-Vallecioffi Trail".
Instead, following a line mapped on OpenStreetMap, we exited the beautiful ridge earlier and descended more directly toward the SP 414, crossed it, and entered lower down the very wide and fenced small road track of the "Cavallazzo-Vallecioffi Trail".
Thus, we arrived at the SP 13 about 1 km from the entrance to Monteforte Cilento where a second car can be parked for those who do not want to do the entire loop on foot.
Directions
You must head between the end of SP 13/b "Trentinara-Monteforte Cilento" and the first part of SP 13/c "Monteforte Cilento-Magliano/Stio junction".
Then it depends if you decide to organize with two cars or do everything from Magliano Vetere.
Parking
Along the main street of Magliano Vetere on the SP 13/c with care not to obstruct commercial activities and private passages.
Various possibilities in Monteforte Cilento if you decide to arrange with two cars.
