The Celts once settled here, and later the Roman occupiers found it difficult to control the mountainous and hard-to-reach region. The castle ("castelo") of Carbedo probably dates from the mid-16th century, of which only a few remains can still be seen. Legend tells that the noblewoman Doña Ilduara lived here and received her lover, the Count of Lemos. Today, the few remaining inhabitants of the small villages practice modest agriculture and animal husbandry.
From Acampamento Caurel we walk as in the tour "Os Sequeiros de Mostad" to Esperante (20 min). There we first follow the sign "Ruta 1, Carbedo/Castelo de Carbedo 2 km" to the left, then to the right. We pass under a house, after the chapel we go left uphill. The wide path makes a left curve, but we follow the straight path (there is a small field to the right). At the next fork, go sharply left uphill; shortly before Carbedo (20 min) the ascent levels off. Straight through the hamlet, we find a slightly ascending country road. At the fork, follow it to the right and turn right at the T-junction onto the asphalt road. Before the hamlet Liñariños (10 min), turn left and reach the remains of Castelo do Carbedo (15 min). Flat or only slightly ascending, we walk on a path bordered by ferns into a small valley. Then follow the main path through a sharp right curve and first climb steeply through forest, then open terrain up to a lane. To the right is the sign Castro (just over 20 min). We
