Unione dei Comuni Valli Taro e Ceno
Starting from Passo del Pellizzone, a pass with a history of pilgrims and merchants’ passage, you follow a pleasant ridge immersed in a vast landscape that ranges from the mountains of the high Apennines to the hills that slowly descend towards the plain.
Reaching the summit of Monte Carameto you can enjoy an extraordinary 360-degree panorama over the Val Ceno, the Val d’Arda and the Po Plain. The southern flank of the mountain features an interesting geological aspect: among the wooded cover, fascinating light and dark limestone layers dating back about 70 million years can be observed. The vegetation consists of beech forest, hawthorn, juniper, and hazel, but to enjoy the beauty of colorful hues, a spring hike is recommended to witness the bloom explosion.
The descent continues through the large flat pastures called Piana dei Lagoni to find refreshment in the cool wood where the charming Chapel of San Giovanni with the homonymous spring nearby is immersed.
