The Idro Lake (Italian Lago d’Idro or Erídio; Latin lacus eridus) is an upper Italian alpine lake. The valley belongs to the valleys of the Judicaries (Italian Valli Giudicarie). The Idro Lake is located in the northern Italian province of Brescia between Lake Garda, Lake Ledro and Lake Iseo.
The 11 km² large, 10 km long and (before Rocca d’Anfo) 122 m deep lake lies at 368 m a.s.l. The natural reservoir lake, a product of the ice age, is fed by the rivers Chiese and Caffaro. The Chiese leaves the lake at Pieve Vecchia. At the highest water level, the lake's water volume is almost 600 million m³.
The lake is used, among other things, for fishing, which has been carried out here since ancient times, as well as for irrigation reserves in the areas of Brescia and Mantua. The mountain lake is almost as warm as Lake Garda, which reaches 20 °C in summer. The large municipality of Idro lies on its shore.
In 1961, the first campsite was opened at Idro Lake. It is now managed by the German company AZUR Freizeit GmbH.
The lake is a meromictic water body due to its stratification.
Vesta
Vesta lies on the alluvial cone of the Rio Vesta. Like in Paröle, there are only holiday homes here. Vesta is the last district on the east side of the lake that can be reached by car from the south. Paröle and Vesta were only accessible by vehicles over land after tunnel openings in the cliffs that rise steeply into the lake allowed a passage (around 1910).
