Monte Bedea

The hike is short, less than two hours round trip, and allows you to visit the remains of the Cadorna line at the summit of Monte Bedea. On the ascent, continuous but never challenging, follow the wide mule track, ignoring a first turn to the left (which leads to a private residence); after about twenty minutes you can admire a beautiful view of Luino before reaching, after another twenty minutes, a very suggestive clearing where the wide jeep track ends. Among trees and ferns, you encounter a World War II structure: the ruins of the Anti-Aircraft Militia Barracks, which remind us of a dark period in our history. The summit of Monte Bedea is reached via a small marked path in a few minutes; the remains consist of a sentry box and a trench system. The return can be made on the same path or by a loop continuing beyond the Cadorna line: you reach Longhirolo from where you return to Motte on an asphalt road.
