The final hike in this guide takes us to the northeasternmost corner of the Black Forest and leads us to a top hiking destination in the immediate vicinity of Pforzheim, the “City of Gold.” The short hike through the picturesque Monbach Gorge, with its cheerfully babbling cascades, is also ideal for families with children—provided they have sure footing.
At the Monbachtal hiking parking lot(312 m), we stroll past the café on the right side of the Monbach through park-like grounds. After passing the mini-golf course, the black-and-red markers for the Schwarzwald-Ostweg point toward Monbachtal, where we immediately find ourselves in idyllic surroundings. At the youth campground, a sign indicates the route’s difficulty level, and shortly thereafter, the hiking challenge increases once more—though it never becomes truly difficult. Nevertheless, the often slippery river crossings over large rocks require sure footing and sturdy footwear. In the wild and romantic valley, the trail climbs in an entertaining manner before the challenges end at the Monbachbrückle. At the signpost in the Upper Monbach Valley(469 m), we leave the Ostweg to the left and follow the blue diamond. We reach Monbachstraße and, on the left, a small hiking parking lot.
