Møgeltønder Church

The oldest late Romanesque parts of the church date from the first half of the 13th century. The tower was added in the 15th century. The frescoes are from the 16th century but were heavily restored at the end of the 19th century. The church belonged to the County of Schackenborg until 1970. After that, it became privately owned and was completely renovated between 1970 and 1988.

Schackenborg Castle and Park

The old dilapidated Møgeltønderhus castle from 1233 was granted in 1661 to the field marshal Hans Schack by King Frederik III for his merits in the Danish-Swedish War (1657-58). Schack had a Baroque castle built in the following years. In the 18th century, the castle received Rococo style elements and later Classical features. After the Schack noble family had no heir, the entire estate returned to the Danish royal house. From 1993 to 2014, the agricultural and forestry estate was managed by Prince Joachim. Afterwards, it was transferred to a foundation to make it accessible to the public and for cultural, scientific, and other events.
