Like a black pearl, the Moaralmsee rests at the foot of the imposing north face of the Höchstein. The quiet mountain lake is also framed by a wreath of small peaks, among which the Bärfallspitze is the easiest to reach.
From the end of the Gumpental valley, a charming mountain basin with several huts of the Moaralm, we hike on a trail or over the loops of an alpine road uphill and then let ourselves be led uphill by path no. 781 over shrub-covered slopes. After crossing a side stream (source), the terrain temporarily becomes wet and flattens out with the reach of a larch belt before we get sight of the dark Moaralmsee behind a terrain threshold. At the trail junction on the lake shore we keep right, cross its outflow and shortly afterwards encounter another junction. Here we suggest a circular route: up to the left – down from the right. The left route ("Bärfallweg, natural history hiking trail") leads us through shrubbery to a grassy shoulder, then over a ramp to a beautiful pond and behind it in a wide left-right loop over a steep boulder hollow to the Seeschartl.
