The promising ridge path separates the Glemmtal from the Salzachtal

The special feature is the contrasts that the mountain lover experiences on this tour: While enjoying the magnificent alpine landscape in full on the first section, a magnificent view awaits after reaching the Murnauer Scharte and crossing the ridge to the Mittagskogel. A successful combination that one would hardly expect from this seemingly insignificant peak.

From the hiking parking lot at the valley end near Hinterlengau, we continue further up the valley and ascend left behind the traffic barrier to the Stefflalm. We follow the wide alpine path briefly before a fork to the right leads into the Vogelalpgraben to the Saalhofalm, 1348 m. Along the western side of the stream and further into the ravine, we reach the Obere Zehentner Grundalm, 1428 m. A little further on to the Murnaueralm, 1574 m. Our path shortly before the buildings turns right and uphill to the Stefflalm, 1670 m. Passing it, at a junction keep left and uphill to the Murnauer Hochalm. The path now crosses below the Leitenkogel to the valley end towards southeast to the Murnauer Scharte and from there over the ridge going east to the summit of the Mittagskogel, 2094 m. The way continues over the ridge to the Zehentner Stange, 2114 m, and here leads left downwards to the Stoffenscharte. Along the western flank of the Stoffenwand, the descent path now leads us to the Untere
