Mistras, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1989, is one of the most visited attractions in the Peloponnese. The oldest structure is the Frankish castle built in the mid-13th century, which sits atop the mountain peak, offering breathtaking views. In the time that followed, Byzantine monasteries and churches were built, some of which have been partially restored and are still well preserved. The Moni Panagia Pandanassa monastery is even still inhabited. The Despot's Palace, built in the 14th century and the largest Byzantine representative building outside of Constantinople, has also been restored in recent years. It was here in 1449 that Constantine XI, the last Byzantine emperor, was crowned.

We follow the path initially heading west and reach a fork after about 500 m, 385 m, at a wooden signpost. To the left it goes to the small mountain village of Taygeti. We here hike down to the right to a stream, cross it on stepping stones, and then hike upwards in numerous switchbacks. After about 1.5 km, we reach a wide gravel road, where we go right to the parking lot , 531 m, at the upper end of the ruins area. From the parking lot, we go to the
