Our tour begins in the Chilean Torres del Paine National Park, one of South America's best-known natural paradises. We start at the Y-150 road section and head towards Mirador Lago Toro. First, we follow an open valley, sparsely dotted with wind-bent southern beeches. Step by step we gain elevation and already have views of Lago Toro, a huge glacier lake whose turquoise water reflects the light through the clouds. The path takes us a bit further over the hill until we reach the Mirador, which rightly bears its name: from here we can look far over Lago Toro, the surrounding bushland, and on the other side to the rugged granite mountains. As we continue climbing the designated path, we soon recognize steep rock faces. Along the way, the characteristic Paine Massifs present themselves in the panorama: to the left rise the silvery-grey Cuernos del Paine with their dark caps, while to the north the Torres del Paine await us lined up.
