Around the Mindelsee between the Überlinger and Zeller See of Lake Constance this hike offers nature experiences in every season.
Southeast of the Radolfzell district Möggingen lies the Mindelsee. Like Lake Constance, it is a relic of the Würm Ice Age. Both are connected by the artificially created Markelfinger Mühlbach, which drains the Mindelsee, located 11 m higher, into the Zeller See. Of its original length of about 9 km, only 2.2 km remain today. On three sides, the lake, up to 600 meters wide, is surrounded by a large raised bog. Also characteristic of the Bodanrück are the oval moraine hills (drumlins) formed after the retreat of the Rhine Glacier. For 80 years, the Mindelsee with the surrounding marsh areas has been an important nature reserve, managed by the BUND nature conservation center in Möggingen.
Also worth seeing in the area are the Max Planck Institute for Ornithology (MaxCine visitor center) in the former water castle Möggingen as well as the Allensbach wildlife and leisure park.
Author’s recommendation
A small detour leads to the Rosenstüble on the Dürrenhof. Here there is coffee, chilled drinks and homemade cake for self-service.

Roadbook
From the bus stop "Möggingen Am Ried" we could follow the street "Am Ried" directly to Mindelseestraße to take the shortest access to the circular hike. However, a more beautiful access is via the Mindelsee hiking parking lot. For this, we walk back a short distance along the street and reach the Mindelsee parking lot on a parallel path.
Here you will find an information board about the Mindelsee nature reserve. Our path leads through the Mögginger Ried, where white storks search for food. After 400m a wide meadow path branches off to the left through the marsh, which then turns left again into the gravel path to the west shore of the Mindelsee. On the path coming from Möggingen, we reach the forest edge on the right at the information board. A riverside, natural path leads through the floodplain forest and finally through the marsh and meadows to the Lake Constance circular path descending from the Hirtenhof. It crosses the Krebsbach stream, turns left and then immediately right through a birch avenue. Especially in late spring, the eastern marsh transforms into a colorful carpet of blooms with orchids and cotton grasses. In the area of the Seewiesen, the path may also be softened. Over the Mooshalde we come to the southern shore of the Mindelsee with beautiful beech forest. At the boat shed of the last licensed fisherman we leave the Mindelsee. Past the forest cemetery, the driveway runs up to shortly before the Mühlbach bridge of the B33. Before that, we turn right to the Mindelseeried and reach the starting point again via the fork "Mögginger Ried".
