Roadbook
From the parking lot in Hemmendorf, the path marked "Milan" leads uphill, westward to the fork in the road. You take the concrete slab path to the right and follow it through a hedge landscape. At the end of the path, please observe the signage. Please keep right here. The path continues uphill and parallel to the slope. From here, the view of the villages in the Itz valley, the Eierberge, the Main valley, and the Staffelberg is worth seeing.
The path soon meets a paved road coming from the valley that leads downhill. Once down, follow the path junction to the right and after a few meters to the left. The path leads to Untermerzbach, past the mighty Hunne oak at the village entrance and the well-known Untermerzbach castle. Within the village, follow the path markings except for the bypass around Untermerzbach. Cross the district road towards Truschenhof and Schenkenau and follow the narrow street.
Leave the knightly estate Truschenhof on your left and follow the hiking trail to Schenkenau, also a former knight's seat. Shortly before the estate, the path turns right at a right angle and soon crosses the Itz. Then continue to Kaltenbrunn. Follow the local signage and soon go under federal road B4. The hiking trail leads back into open country and through a varied forest and meadow landscape.
After a slight ascent, the path leads toward Lahm. Just before the village, the path branches off west to Hemmendorf, the starting point, and runs through the Itz valley. It follows the local district road on the flood walkway directly into the village. At the junction of the district road, the hiking parking lot is on the left-hand side.
