We follow the route clockwise. Why? Because it creates the best narrative tension that way. Out of the small town via the lovingly constructed gate. To the Fischbach, then a few turns and the path climbs in switchbacks up to the Herrstein lookout tower with a nice rest area. Shortly after, the medieval path reaches a viewing canopy from which you can see amazingly 19 villages, weather permitting. The view of the Wildenburger Kopf with the Mörschieder Burr shows that you are very close to the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig here.
