The route is maintained by the ViviStolvizza Association and crosses charming and varied natural settings both in the valley floor and in the mid-mountain area.
You will need the Tabacco 027 map.
The route will take you to discover incredible cultural aspects of Val Resia and to cross numerous mountain huts, some of which - for example the Sart na Raven huts - were inhabited all year round. Thanks to the signs of the Val Resia Ecomuseum, you will learn how it was possible to live in such places and what humans had to do to live in close contact with nature.
From the Ladina parking lot, the first part of the path is downhill and you will follow the Resia stream. It is practically impossible to lose your way, as the route is marked with very clear signs, as you can see in the photos.
After crossing a wooden bridge (caution, slippery!) over a tributary of the main stream, the ascent begins. Shortly beyond the Sart na Raven mountain huts there is a fork: you will continue to the right and later, on the return, you will come from the left to return to Ladina on the same path traveled so far.
The Matteo path loop is traveled counterclockwise and is partly on a path and partly on a forest road.
At about nine hundred meters altitude there is a beautiful building with a panoramic view of the valley, equipped with fountain and table suitable for a pleasant break either alone or in company.
In the final part of the ascent, while traveling the flat forest road, it is advisable to pay attention to the fork to intercept the CAI path that climbs to the Sella di Grubia and, then, to the Canin. The advice is to take this path, turn left at the next fork (therefore in the opposite direction to the Canin) and then reach the forest road again from there, also visiting the ta-na Rauni mountain huts.
From there it will not be difficult to find the Matteo Path again, at the point where the descent begins that will first take you to the fork near Sart na Raven and then to your cars.
