The Markha Valley Trek winds through the stunning mountain scenery of Ladakh, combining diverse landscapes, traditional villages, and high-altitude mountain passes. Starting from Stok, the route initially follows the Stok Tokpo River and leads through increasingly alpine landscapes to Stok La at just under 4,900 meters. Via Rumbak, the Ganda La, and Shingo, the trail descends into the Markha Valley, where green river oases, spectacular rock formations, Buddhist chortens, and prayer wheel walls characterize the route. Following the Markha River, the trek leads via Skiu, Sara, and Markha further into the valley toward Hankar. The landscape becomes increasingly barren and pristine as the route ascends via Tachungtse to the lakes of Chhiu and finally to the high alpine pasture of Nimaling.
