This hike takes you to the quarry of the famous cipolin marble which, during its heyday, was exported worldwide. Along the route through vineyards and forest, thanks to historical information panels installed by the Friends of Marble, you will learn the story of this unique stone. At 1000 meters altitude, the old quarry reveals the traces of its glorious past in a unique site.

On the return, you can make a detour via the village of Saillon, where you will find the Marble House and various historic buildings featuring marble.

Access via Place des Marbriers and the Gru Canal:

From Place des Moilles (bus stop and free parking), cross the road as if going up to the village, but 40 m at the foot of the rock, in front of the cross, turn left onto Chemin des Amandiers. Cross the bridge, and turn right onto Route de Gru. After 150 m you can take the observation path of the Gru canal natural reserve, then cross the Cleusette bridge on your right.

Access at the foot of the 17 bends

You can also park your vehicle at Pont de Cleusette.

Opposite the bridge, take the asphalt road that climbs into the vineyard to start the ascent of the 17 bends towards the quarry. The first 3 bends are on the asphalt road. The following bends serve the last vineyards then enter the forest.

    Descent via the village

If on the descent you want to make a detour via the village, turn left halfway between the last bend and the Cleusette bridge to follow a path in the hillside. Then left, climb the road alongside the rocks up to the cross, finally follow the path towards the village.
