The route passes through beautiful scenery and circles Makkariniemi. The path partly runs on a high shoreline cliff and partly through pine forest. There are no steep ascents or descents on the route, and the path is even throughout. The route is suitable as a day trip destination also for families with children. The Manamansalo camping area in Teeriniemi is a good starting point. The route is marked with blue dots (on tree trunks).

Roadbook
START AND END POINT: The route can be accessed from the Manamansalo camping area by following the signs. You can choose the direction of the route. The rest area at Makkariniemi is halfway around the circular route.
If you travel the route clockwise, wide views of Lake Oulu open up from the path along the shoreline cliff. 1.1 km from the start is the Painanne rest area. The campfire site is located on the shoreline cliff. The rest area has a woodshed and an outdoor toilet. The route continues along the shoreline cliff 2.3 km toward the tip of Makkariniemi. In Makkariniemi, there is a rest area with a shelter that has an open fireplace and a table-bench combination for 12 people. There is a woodshed and an outdoor toilet.
From Makkariniemi, the route continues for 3.4 km along the shore of Kaaresjärvi and in a spacious pine forest, reaching the Särkinen pond. When arriving at the shore of Särkinen, about 100 m away there is a fire site, which is signposted from the path. At the other rest area on the shore of Särkinen, there is a shelter and a fire site. Near it is an accessible fishing spot. The information board has instructions for obtaining a fishing license. The end point of the route at the camping area is 1.7 km away.
If you travel the route counterclockwise, the Särkinen rest area and accessible fishing spot are 1.7 km from the camping area parking lot; from there, it is 3.4 km of forest section to the Makkariniemi rest area. The 3.4 km stretch from Makkariniemi to the camping area follows the shoreline cliff.

From Kajaani: approx. 1 hour 15 minutes drive (87 km). Drive on road E63 to Kontiomäki, then on Oulu road (road 22) towards Paltamo-Oulu. From Paltamo 26 km > turn left onto Petäjälahdentie. Follow the camping area signs.
From Oulu: approx. 2 hours drive (144 km), on road 22 towards Kajaani. At km 122 turn right onto Petäjälahdentie. Follow the camping area signs.
