One of the most scenic hikes in Lungau leads through the untouched Znachtal and past long-abandoned mines. The highlight is the ascent of the Lungau or the only slightly lower Styrian Kalkspitze. In this Lungau guide, of course, the Lungauer Kalkspitze is targeted as the destination.
From the large parking lot in the Weißpriachtal, 1276 m, or the Tälerbus stop slightly downstream to the clearly marked left turn – northwards – into the Znachtal on trail no. 771 past the Lower Grainmeister Hut, 1320 m. After about 1 hour you reach the old Upper Grainmeister Hut.20 minutes later the trail branches right (Alpine Club sign) to Giglachsee. At Znachsattel, 2059 m, trail no. 771 joins the Tauern High Trail 702, which now leads left – westwards – sometimes quite airy to the Akarscharte, 2315 m. Here you have two excellent viewpoint mountains to choose from: the Styrian, 2459 m, and the Lungauer Kalkspitze, 2471 m. Each ascent takes about half an hour, sure-footedness is required. The view ranges from Dachstein over the Tennengebirge, the Schladming Tauern and far beyond.Back to the Akarscharte and steeply down to Oberhüttensattel, 1866 m, by the eponymous lake.
