Los Roques de García circuit, Teide National Park
Round route around the bizarre rock formations of the "Los Roques de García" and on the Montaña de Roque ~2,157 m.
In the national park and generally, some routes or volcanoes should not be entered, personal responsibility and local information are then necessary. Also at the Roque, in the middle of the very short ascent, there are chains to prevent crowds from climbing up and littering!
From the chapel, the hike leads to the circular route and past the well-known Roque Cinchado. The path initially runs through almost flat terrain along the spectacular rock towers. Subsequently follows the descent into the sediment plain Llano de Ucanca, which runs along an impressive lava tongue resembling a waterfall. At the foot of the bizarre lava formations, the path leads to the volcanic vent La Catedral and back up to the starting point.

Tips and suggestions
Early departure pays off; it gets crowded around noon!
Among the Roques de García, the Roque Cinchado stands out. The probably most famous rock formation in Teide National Park is also called the "Finger of God" or "Stone Tree." The free-standing rock needle is one of Tenerife's landmarks and about 30 m high.

Directions: See also detailed "time-altitude diagram in the image gallery".
ASCENT: From the parking lot near the chapel (~2143 m) at the Mirador de la Ruleta, walk briefly to the road, cross it and follow the path to the right in front of the terrace. We meet the main path at the "Finger of God." Then slightly ascending (~2156 m), through a hollow (~2130 m) and again slightly ascending to the path junction to Viejo at about 2172 m. The view of the changing rock spires on the left is magnificent, as well as the colors in shades of brown to beige. We continue straight and reach the end of the circuit, the highest point around 2175 m. 70 m ascent and almost 3/4 hour leisurely with photo stops.
DESCENT: Now it goes downhill, the path Sentero 3 is almost always walkable, the view down leads us to the lowest point ~2020 m of the Llano de Ucanca plain. At the fork, continue left. Again almost 3/4 hour for the descent.
ASCENT 2: We keep left, passing the steep cathedral it goes uphill again. At about 2160 m we can easily go right quickly to the foot of the climbing rock La Catedral. Back and now climb steeper to the terrace at about 2135 m. Good place for rest and views. Here you can quickly climb to Montaña de Roque ~2,157 m. Steps and the usually wide hiking trail end for the masses right at the barrier and safety chains.
Great view to Teide, Guajara, and down to the mass parking lots and the chapel. Back down to the terrace and then up to a viewpoint at 2150 m. Back and left a bit to the top photo spot "Finger of God" with Teide in the background. Our parking lot at the chapel is then quickly reached. 165 m ascent and 1 hour.
Overall: 235 m ascent, about 2 1/4 hours (leisurely) and 5.8 km route distance.
Public transport
There is also bus service.
Directions
Depending on your stay, e.g., from Costa Adeje (53 km and <1 hour) via the highway, then right turn (TF-38) and follow the good brown signposting to Teide. At the high plateau to the road fork Boca Tauce (1980 m), left (TF 21) and after the plateau up to the Mirador with the chapel at 2143 m on the right, good parking here.
Parking
Several parking options also on the left side of the road, but at noon usually everything is full everywhere!
Return also via Vilaflor on TF 21, (opportunities for refreshment and church visits, Iglesia San Pedro) very worthwhile. Shortly before, visit the two giant pine trees (e.g., 56.3 m high and 8.3 m circumference) on the right and left near the parking.
