Loreley Route - View into the World Heritage
The trail initially follows the L338 to the historic Adolfs Oak, planted in 1864 by the citizens of Bornich. Over meadows and field paths, it continues to the forest edge and through the Loreley nature reserve, where sheep often graze the open areas in spring. Repeatedly, impressive views open up over the Rhine Valley and the heights of the Taunus and Hunsrück.
At the viewpoints Balzenhöller Kopf and am Gesetz, benches invite you to linger and marvel – here the view over the World Heritage Site becomes an unforgettable experience. Back in town, the trail passes the Loreley-Bornich wine cooperative, where a glass of award-winning Middle Rhine wine perfectly rounds off the tour.

Tips and suggestions
The trail is named "View into the World Heritage" because of its panoramic views of Taunus, Hunsrück, and the Middle Rhine Valley:- To the south, the deeply cut Urbachtal of the neighboring village Dörscheid
- To the north, on clear days, you can see the Katz and Maus castles
The "Adolfs Oak" was planted on August 22, 1864, by Bornich citizens on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the accession to the throne of Duke Adolph of Nassau and has always been colloquially called "des Aaschebamche" by locals.
Roadbook
The route follows the service road along the L338 to the water reservoir. There the L338 is crossed. Here stands the "Adolfs Oak."
The asphalted path continues for 200 m, then turns left onto an unpaved field path. Over meadow paths, you reach the forest edge, which you follow about 900 m west. Then the landscape opens up and the further route leads along extensive poor grasslands that belong to the Loreley nature reserve. In spring, you may occasionally meet a hiking shepherd whose sheep maintain the open areas. At two notable spots, the "Balzenhöller Kopf" and at the "Am Gesetz," benches invite you to pause and let your gaze wander "over the World Heritage." From here, you can also see the villages Niederburg, Damscheid, and Dellhofen across the river on the wooded Hunsrück heights. Looking south, you see the neighboring village Dörscheid on the other side of the deeply cut Urbachtal. Looking north, on clear days, you can spot the Katz and Maus castles.
At the latest here, the panoramic view of Taunus, Hunsrück, and the Middle Rhine Valley becomes a "View into the World Heritage."
After "Am Gesetz," the route continues through meadows and fields until it meets the paved "Hohle Weg." Follow this path into the village and see the building of the Loreley Wine Cooperative. With some luck, you arrive during opening hours and can taste a delicious, award-winning Middle Rhine wine and treat yourself to a "little bottle" to end the tour. Then you return to the starting point via the Winzerweg and behind the "Obergärten."
If you choose the path through the village via Kauber Straße, you will pass the newly designed "Pfarrgarten." This small park with its pavilion, benches, and tables is perfect for ending the tour. In the middle of this small green oasis, you can reflect on the tour once more and enjoy the "little bottle of wine."
