Since the creation of Forggensee, the flora and fauna of the Litzauer Loop have suffered significant losses due to the absence of redeposition stretches caused by the lack of sediment transport. Nevertheless, the viewpoints on the Burggener steep bank remain some of the most beautiful far and wide. The wild pine forest escarpments and gravel banks, as well as oxbow arms and softwood floodplains of the nature reserve, the large peninsula on the south shore, and the nearby towering Ammergau and Lechtal Alps ... And of course, the excitingly narrow bend of the nearly last Lech section not yet affected by human hands after the wild Tyrolean river flows out of the mountains with its Vorarlberg origin keep one captivated for a long time.
We start in Burggen from the bus stop at the village fountain towards Schongau, take the sports field path and only after the church notice the sign "Lechhöhenweg". A scarcely used road leads along the Steinbach from the town's end until shortly before the hamlet Forchenmühle, where a rising forest path branches off. This soon changes into a field path to the isolated farm Lechhalde, 755 m. From there, it’s just a short distance to the Litzauer Loop, 775 m.The first viewpoint with an explanatory board awaits directly at the steep bank with a wooden recliner set up – what a service! The Lechhöhenweg passing here leads at times on trail sections to another viewpoint, where assembled polished river pebbles with individual color tones and patterns tell of their origin.A short descent follows, then we pass the small nature reserve Ghagetslaichwiesen. A bit after the Rossau junction, it goes back over the wide meadowland on a farm road to Burggen.
