Consorzio Alta Valle del Potenza e Scarzito
A route of great naturalistic value, which develops in the most evocative stretch of the Pioraco Gorge where the Potenza river, joined by the Scarzito, has its most impetuous and striking course, and where its unceasing action has carved the rock, creating gorges, waterfalls, whirlpools, and water games.
With the "Li Vurgacci" path we enter the soul of Pioraco. That pulsating soul, created by the force of nature, by water working on matter, even the hardest and most resistant, and by the sensitivity of man who wanted to make it visible.
The path winds for about 500 mt along wooden walkways, with some ground sections near the river or on stone steps, and allows you to enter this world full of suggestions, emotions, and wonders.
Author’s recommendation
The Li Vurgacci path was strongly desired by the AL.VA.P. speleological group of Pioraco, and here the works of one of its major exponents, Antonio Ciccarelli, found their greatest expression, as he carved his creatures into the rocks, animating every corner of the "Fossa dei Mostri".

ACCESS:
For the shorter Li Vurgacci route, access is from the center of Pioraco; from via Gramsci follow the signs for path no. 247g.
DESCRIPTION:
The "short" route is accessed from the center of Pioraco. From via Gramsci take the small Piazza Matteotti to the left, and, shortly afterwards, go down via della Cartiera, passing the shrine of the Santissimo Crocifisso (where every September 14 the Bishop celebrates the Holy Mass for the Cartari festival). You take a suspended walkway and path no. 247g that circles around the mountain surrounding the paper mill, and descends right near an old water fountain next to the factory, then climbs again along via Camellaria which, after taking via Cesare Augusto, leads back to the center. From the fountain you can choose to slightly extend the route and walk along the banks of the Potenza river, beyond the Church of the SS. Crocifisso, always along path no. 247g, up to the junction with the S.S.361, then return along the same route back to the old Camellaria road.
