Among all the higher, forested mountains around, the Leonardstein prominently rises from the landscape. Its south side forms a steep rock face, while the north side is wooded, but climbing it is not a casual stroll. Some scrambling is necessary. Despite its modest height, it offers a magnificent panoramic view. And Kreuth boasts the oldest Leonhard Church in Bavaria.
From the parking lot, go straight on the paved road to the church in the western part of Kreuth and continue on a driveable path westward over meadows to the forest edge. In the forest, we cross a stream and hike uphill on a driveable path; at the height of the Duslaualm, we cross a path leading across a clearing. Up over a meadow, then through the forest where the forest road becomes a narrow hiking trail. Through a ditch into the saddle between Leonhardstein and Filzenkogel at an elevation of 1179 m. Just past 100 m down, then the trail branches off left (red arrow), which first takes us through forest (marked) and higher up over rocky and partly slippery terrain to the summit of Leonardstein. Return is via the ascent route.Descent option via Enterfels: Before the small bridge in the forest over the Fennergraben stream, keep right. After 200 m, we meet a forest road, cross the stream here to the left and follow this down to Enterfels. There, cross the German Alpine Road and turn left
