Free circular route to one of the most beautiful lookout mountains of the Provence Alps. Very rewarding as it is rarely frequented.
Author’s recommendation
Bring enough to drink. The descent path is strenuous in the quite hot canyon. Therefore, the reverse route with ascent through the canyon is not recommended.

The ascent path follows the terrain fairly freely uphill (many possible paths), mostly unmarked but marked (probably a local map with indications). Then comfortably following a forest road up to the ridge of the Route Forestière de Montdenier. From there, follow the signpost to Le Pavillon. Those who wish can already climb the first grassy hill and then ascend pathlessly over the small saddle to Le Pavillon. The descent is then via the signposted path through a small canyon through scrubland and, in the lower part, a small forest to the road to Montdenier campsite. From there, only about 1 km to the campsite.
