The three-thousanders of the Fanes group – Zehnerspitze, Lavarella, and Cunturines – all lie on the rearing western edge of the central plateau, where the mighty limestone slab drops in a wall several kilometers wide towards the Gadertal. These forbidding walls are usually accessible only to experienced climbers, but the peaks can easily be climbed from the more moderate eastern side by "regular users." The Lavarella in the south of the group is approached from the Tadegajoch, which can be conveniently reached from the Pederü mountain inn via the Kleine Fanesalm (refuge) on mountain roads. Because of the considerable length, the tour is described here as a two-day hike with an overnight stay at the Faneshütte.
Day 1: From the Ghf. Pederü, right of the road to Kleinfanes, gently uphill southwards on path no. 7 through dwarf pines, later steeply upwards in switchbacks towards the Vallon di Rudo onto a moraine ridge scattered with boulders in the flat central valley section. Shortly downward beyond, then level through dwarf pines to the Fanes road, 1826 m, near Lake Pischodel.Continue 150 m further along the road, then right on a wide footpath (no. 7) ascending the valley through forest and dwarf pines to the west, and back to the road. Along the road to a sharp left turn, then in a narrow valley trench above the rushing Vigilbach to the south and past the Kleinfanes junction "Ücia Pices Fanes," 2000 m, to the Kleine Fanesalm in the Parom valley. At the road fork Lavarellahütte/Faneshütte, keep left and climb in 5 minutes to Faneshütte, 2060 m.Day 2: From the Faneshütte either by natural road (path no. 10 and 11) in some switchbacks or directly short-cutting southwards to the Limojoch, 2172 m.
