About 100 years have passed since the Taisho eruption of Sakurajima burned the surrounding area, and now vegetation is gradually recovering on the once barren lava field, bringing back a rich landscape where you can feel the breath of life. Enjoy the resilient plants rooted in the lava, the rocky shores spreading over rough lava, the calm mirror-like Kinko Bay, the view of Kagoshima city center, and of course the imposing presence of Sakurajima itself along with the views of Kagoshima city across the bay as you walk slowly. Although you walk through the Taisho lava flow's rock sea, the path is well maintained and easy to walk. Wooden decks are installed at key points along the course for resting. The area is also meaningful as a literary stroll, with many haiku monuments by poets such as Kaneko Tohta scattered around.
