This cross-border hike through lonely forests first takes us along the ridge trail at the foot of the Lausche, 792 m. Other highlights include the Fünfkirchenstein viewpoint rock, the Sirný pramen sulfur spring, and finally at the end of the loop the idyllic forest-located Jägerdörfel (Myslivny), where there is a good opportunity to stop for refreshments.
From the parking lot below Butterberg in Waltersdorf, we walk up the road to the checkpoint, the old border crossing into Bohemia. Directly at the demarcation line, two information panels refer to events from around the Second World War: On the German side is a memorial stone recalling the expulsion of the German inhabitants from the adjacent Bohemian area (1945). Opposite, on the Czech side, a memorial stone remembers the autumn of 1938. Konrad Henlein, with his Sudeten German Party, had a few days before the Munich Agreement instigated an uprising aiming to annex the Sudetenland to the German Reich. The rebellion was quickly suppressed by the Czechoslovak police and army. We follow the blue stripe marking, which leads us along the right side of the border with a nice view of Waltersdorf past the Hubertusbaude and then below the Lausche summit with the Lauscheborn spring to the ridge trail, followed also by the Upper Lusatian mountain path.
