At the foot of the Lausche, Germany's highest mountain east of the Elbe, lies the holiday resort Waltersdorf with many well-preserved half-timbered houses. A partly steep hiking trail leads to one of the most beautiful viewpoint peaks of the Zittau Mountains.
We start our tour at the parking lot below the Butterberg in Waltersdorf. Here begins a hiking trail marked with a yellow stripe near the nearby inn Auf der Heide. It first leads us westward over meadows to the edge of the forest. In the forest, after 200 m we reach a signpost indicating left the direction to our first destination, the Lausche. After a few steps on a small hollow path, we reach a trail marked with a green stripe, on which we ascend gently to the foot of the Seilerstiege. Then we climb 60 m via many steps. Finally, we cross a ski slope and walk above the school camp Lausitzer Hütte to the broad ridge path, on which the Upper Lusatian mountain trail also runs. Here we turn right following the green stripe. After about 300 m, we branch left at a signpost and hike on a steep path up to the summit of the Lausche, Luž, where the German-Czech border runs.
