A hidden gem are the quiet hiking trails beneath the Latemar, across the romantic Karer Forest. The highlight is the Latemar high trail between Satteljoch and Karerpass. The western section is featured in tour 20. Here, its eastern continuation is described, a high-altitude walk under the spell of the Latemar north faces. Starting from Obereggen, this makes a day tour for advanced hikers, but without dangers. Landscape highlights include, besides the famous Karersee, the Mitterleger, a dreamy alpine pasture paradise with an exquisite view of rose gardens.
From Obereggen, take the road to Eggen northwards for 300 m up to the Obereggen Saddle, 1552 m, with a right turn off onto an asphalt road and a driveable path. Take the latter (path no. 9 and 21) through the forest soon to a fork. Take the right fork uphill (path no. 21) eastwards to a junction. Keeping right (path no. 21), steeply ascend to a beautiful meadow (spring). Continue further uphill, then around a mountain ridge to the north side of the Latemar. There follow the forest slopes to the shoulder of the Außerleger with a large meadow. Cross a wooded high valley on a forest road, then descend on a cart road southeast to the Mitterleger, 1835 m, with a shelter hut. The forest road goes 100 m north in the forest, then right on path no. 21 eastwards through the Karer Forest to where it intersects path no. 18 near the Geplänklacke. Take path no. 21 briefly north, then northeast to the Fontane meadows and further on to Karerpass, 1758 m. Return to Mitterleger. 100 m before it, the
