The start and finish of this route is Mayerling (parking). Walk along the road to Maria-Raisenmarkt for about 15 minutes, then turn right (yellow Via Sacra sign) and then left again, always along a lightly trafficked road and path up to Maria Raisenmarkt. Before the church, turn right uphill (signpost) and walk about 500 m, then turn left into the forest (trail sign Peilsteinhaus) and ascend. Steeply climb a root path up to the Arnstein ruin and the Arnstein cave (be sure to check out the Arnstein needle!!). Continue along the wide forest path, crossing the road to Holzschlag, going up to Peilsteinhaus. Descend to Schwarzensee and continue on the Mödlinger circular hiking trail to Zobelhof and further via Fuchsreut, past the Bishop's Mitre rock, according to the map back to Mayerling.
