In the hiking area of Rabaçal, almost everything revolves around the Risco waterfall and the admittedly enchanting levada tour to the 25 Springs. The path to Lagoa do Vento is often overlooked, wrongly so, in our opinion. At the source of the Levada do Alecrim, there is also a charming waterfall to admire, and the descent to the small pool of Lagoa do Vento is also worthwhile.
From the Rabaçal parking lot, we walk down the road blocked for car traffic towards 25 Fontes (PR 6/6.1). At the power pole 20 meters after the barrier, the path turns right onto a marked trail (PR 6.2) to the Levada do Alecrim, which is followed counter to the flow direction. The canal runs in a wide left curve through a valley covered with heath bushes. After about 15 minutes, the levada crosses the Ribeira do Alecrim, the rosemary river, at a semicircular water basin. Further on, the water canal squeezes through rocks, requiring some slightly exposed sections to be negotiated. Soon the dense bush forest gives way to views of evergreen hilltops and the levadas of Rabaçal far below. On a steep staircase, we ascend a ridge beside the rushing levada with 54 steps. Fifteen minutes after the stairs, a path crosses the levada, along which we will descend to Lagoa do Vento after visiting the source of the levada. The sound of waterfalls comes closer.
