The Lärcheck is certainly not one of the trendy peaks in the Kaiser. Even the rather arduous normal route does not attract crowds, appealing mainly to tough individuals and showing them the characteristic image of the Wilder Kaiser from the Kaiserbach valley to the summit, where it truly lives up to its name.
Opposite the Fischbachalm cross the stream and follow the wide hiking path to the right – passing the memorial for the dead in the Kaisergebirge – in 10 minutes to the junction of the AV path 816. Now turn left through a belt of forest, then ascend to the mountain base in a scree bed or just to the left of it. Here the difficulties begin. A rope protection aids the entrance over a rock rib upwards, then proceed through a well-stepped larch thicket, followed in the same direction by a lightly wooded ramp. Now veer right and cross above a gully over scree back to the left. Over a longer, arduous stretch of scree, reach a rock ledge in the middle of the cirque. This is overcome from the right and leads through larches and over well-stepped rock to a scree area in the Griesenerkar with numerous cairns and path forks (approx. 1615 m, "red" upper boundary). Straight ahead leads to the Lärcheck, the right-hand path leads to the Fritz-Pflaum Hut intended for the descent circular route. From the
