The local mountain of Altenmarkt with views over the upper Enns valley

One of the most distinctive mountains around Radstadt is the Lackenkogel (2,051 m) – hikers love the green cone that majestically rises above the Radstadt basin. An ideal starting point is the Sattelbauer, which can be reached by car from Flachau. From the Sattelbauer, head south to hiking trail no. 73 and continue on a forest road into the high forest. You now have two options: the longer but more comfortable route continues on the forest road; a steeper path leads ambitious hikers uphill, crossing the alpine road four times before finally reaching the alpine meadow with the Lackenalm inviting you to take a small break. From there, the hike leads to a saddle where the eponymous pools (Lacken) are located. From the pools, a path leads over a wooded ridge and then crosses the mountain pine fields. The hike continues to the left and leads over the open southern ridge until the summit cross majestically appears in front of you. The summit finally offers a magnificent panoramic view of the landscape. In autumn, the hollow around the Lackenalm is also a true feast for the eyes, as the larch ring displays colorful autumn hues. For the descent, the ascent route is taken again.
